Waldo, Samuel Lovett

Waldo studied painting (c. 1799) with Joseph Stewart of Hartford, Connecticut. Waldo opened his ownstudion in Hartford in 1803. Soon after, he left for Litchfield, Connecticut and Charleston, S.C. where he spent 3 years. Worked and studied in London from 1806 to 1808. Returned to America in 1809 and opened a studio in NYC. Took his student, William Jewett, as a partner and their studio was successful for 30 years until 1854.
