Price, Melville

graphite, crayon & collage on paper

2000 Gift of Barbara Gillette Price

This untitled drawing by Melville Price has the same elements of his large-scale paintings. His spontaneous marks made with crayon and graphite pencil mimic the manner in which he applied paint to canvas. Words and pictures clipped from magazines and incorporated into the composition reflect Price's personal statements about American culture in the 1960s.
