Gothic

etching on paper, 8/30

1974 Gift of the Artist

Born in Hungary, Ralph Fabri studied architecture before receiving a master of arts degree at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest in 1918. In 1921 he arrived in New York and made it his permanent residence. He became a US citizen in 1927 and was active in the New York art community.

A prolific printmaker, Fabri's work reveals his interest in literature, music, history and religion. "Gothic" was inspired by the Cathedral of Chartres. Fabri communicates movement and rhythm through the pattern of curved lines.
