Hamilton, Charles Jupiter

carved and painted pine and poplar, glass marbles, metal stand

1989 Purchase funded by the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation

A departure from Charles Jupiter Hamilton's wall mounted wood relief pieces, "Burning" is a free standing sculpture. The surface treatment is similar to his wood relief pieces. Recessed areas of the sculpture are painted black and the highly patterned surface is painted with bright colors. Yellow marbles add texture to the piece, along with stylized painted wood flames that burst from the side of the torso.
