Owen, Frank

graphite on mylar

1992 Purchase funded by The Collectors Club

This graphite drawing on mylar by Frank Owen focuses on his favorite subject -- nature. His compositions often depict sticks, stones and leaves in a chaotic jumble "inoculated with a kind of Adirondack forest density" that communicates his sensory experience of the environment. This drawing has similarites to a sheet of pond ice in which leaves, sticks and weeds are frozen at various depths. The translucency of the mylar adds to the illusion of layers in a way ordinary paper would not.
